This excursion combines the natural beauty of one of the Aegean’s most remarkable islands with the knowledge and insight of an experienced English-speaking tour guide.
After boarding in Pigadia Harbor, you’ll cruise north along the dramatic coastline of Karpathos toward the protected island of Saria, an uninhabited island rich in history, mythology, and natural beauty. Throughout the journey, your guide will share fascinating information about the region’s history, culture, and geological features.
Upon arrival at Palatia, your guide will lead you on a scenic hike to the hilltop Church of St. Zacharias. This round-trip walk takes approximately two hours and rewards participants with breathtaking panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, the rugged coastline of Saria, and the surrounding islands. Along the way, you’ll learn about the island’s history, ancient settlements, and the significance of this remote and peaceful location.
Following the hike, you’ll have free time to explore the remains of the ancient settlement of Palatia, once one of the most important communities in the area. Discover centuries-old ruins, ancient churches, and traces of civilizations that once flourished on the island while learning about Saria’s unique role in Karpathian history.
The excursion also includes plenty of time to swim and relax in some of the most beautiful and secluded bays in the Dodecanese. Crystal-clear turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs, and pristine natural surroundings create the perfect setting for swimming, snorkeling, photography, or simply unwinding beneath the Mediterranean sun.
For guests who have pre-purchased the optional beach barbecue lunch, a freshly prepared meal will be cooked and served directly on the beach during the swimming and relaxation period. Enjoy traditional charcoal-grilled chicken souvlaki, Greek salad, vegetables, tzatziki, and bread while surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Saria.
